Originally from Luxembourg, Charline is a Master’s student in Psychology of Sustainable Development at the University of Geneva, where she focuses on behavioural science applied to sustainability. She previously studied cognitive psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, developing a strong interest in how human behaviour shapes responses to complex global challenges.

At the Beyond Lab, she contributes to the Hope Project, an initiative grounded in affective science and behavioural research that explores how emotions shape engagement with global challenges. Her work focuses on developing the Hope Method — an evidence-based approach that translates insights from psychology into practical tools to foster constructive hope, personal agency, and collective action.

Through research and real-world experimentation, the project aims to provide actionable recommendations for policymakers, educators, negotiators, and civil society actors seeking to foster more collaborative and future-oriented decision-making.

Here is a list of 3 questions she seeks to answer within the Beyond Lab:

  • How can constructive hope transform emotions such as fear or frustration into agency and collective action?
  • How can affective science inform tools that strengthen cooperation and dialogue in complex decision-making contexts?
  • How can the Hope Method help institutions create environments where people feel empowered to act on global challenges?
